This year marks the sixth year in a row that Power Rogers came in first place in Illinois for Chicago Lawyer magazine’s Annual Settlement Survey. Chicago Lawyer has ranked our firm number one since 2010.
Throughout our firm’s history, we have recovered more than $3 billion in verdicts and settlements for our clients, that’s more than half a billion more than our closest competitor. Since Chicago Lawyer has been compiling settlement results for Illinois law firms, there is only one year where Power Rogers was not in the top three law firms in the state in terms of financial recovery.
In an article for Chicago Lawyer magazine, Attorney Joseph Power attributes the firm’s success, at least in part, to the unyielding work ethic of its attorneys, as well as the strong relationships the firm has built with other area law firms that often refer cases to them.
The article goes on to say that Power has never lost a verdict in a medical malpractice case. His secret? Well it’s no secret at all – just hard work. Power believes the most powerful tactic he uses in these cases is simplifying things. In order to simplify, he has to understand, so he labors over the evidence until he can boil it down to an understandable level.
“If it’s a very complicated case and it remains complicated to the jury, invariably, in my opinion, the defense is going to win,” Power said. “I want the jury to say to themselves, ‘I understand what went wrong. How come the doctor didn’t?’”
